Candidates are Tweeting

It was great fun this week to see one of our candidates tweeting about his interview with Trane this week. Twitter is definitely the latest and greatest social networking site to infiltrate the business community and especially the recruiting world.
I attended Shally Steckerl's Advanced Twitter Webinar last week and I learned how to search the site using the traditional boolean approaches like recruiters have learned with other sites. Great Fun!

Things are picking up!

We have new openings in sales and engineering which is a good indication of a market changing....at least I hope. With new jobs comes a flood of new resumes that are on the market available.

Candidates need to set them apart from others by being concise and quickly evident that they meet or exceed the minimum qualifications. Most recruiters are getting at least 100 resume per opening, if not 300-500 per job.

I can't stress advice I continue to give. Drop the long summary/objective and the functional resumes and just stick to the basic chronological resumes with descriptive bullets that tell about your significant accomplishments.

I have been playing around with twitter and so should you. If you are sitting at home looking for a home, then google twitter and give yourself a quick tutorial....there are lots of articles on what to do and it is so easy to learn.

New Openings

Despite the economy, Trane is still hiring. We have several great positions open in Finance, Sales and Supply Chain. All positions are posted at Trane.com.
I am speaking to a Leadership Tyler class this week on how to interview. There will be 34 of Tyler's brightest new executives listening to the how to's, what not's and where to go's on Thursday. It should be a talkative lively group with lots of interview horror stories.

What advice do I have for candidates this week? So many candidates want to bypass the online application which is a huge mistake. This is the company's official tool to track you as a candidate. I have seen countless candidates WAIT til they get to talk to someone live from a linkedin.com connection or other connection before applying, then they miss the time to apply to get real consideration. Once a company gets far in the interview process, it is difficult to go back and consider new candidates.
Always apply and follow the instructions of the application online and THEN go work your network to see who you know and see if you get an internal reference of some kind.

Where did the year go?

I haven't blogged so long, I had to have my password sent to me to remember.
Things are going well at Ingersoll Rand and we nearly complete with merging processes and policies. The acquisition has been a very positive move for Trane as our companies have very similar cultures and values.

I don't have too many openings for 2009, but I do have a few that are critical....
Controller
Supply Chain Director
a few more.....

Go to www.ingersollrand.com and look at the jobs we have. The market is tight but most companies are still hiring.

What is on your mind this year?

BLOGGING

I am teaching a small group of Dallas HR members about blogging on the web today at lunch.
I think it is much easier to set up a blog and let people come to you then to go searching on other blogs. What do you think?

Ingersoll Rand Sale complete

We are officially a "sector" of Ingersoll Rand.....although we call it a division to most people.
We are just going through all the transitional information, policies and procedures.
Everything is great and we are excited to be part of a large organization.
I still am recruiting for all type level positions.

I am particularly recruiting for 4 Lab Technicians....must have AA in HVAC and/or service tech type experience. Are you a service tech and want to live in Tyler, TX? Please apply online at www.trane.com.

How is the Ingersoll Rand transition going?

I get this question often and my answer is nothing has really changed. The official date is not until the end of May. We expect to remain the same Residential Systems division we have always had with the same goals and same President. We have some great openings for HVAC professionals.
We have a new Design Engineering Manager opening in Tyler, TX. Go to www.trane.com to apply.
